Increased Police Protection ?
news-image

In a BBC interview with Nick Hurd MP the minister for policing, he has said that the government is reviewing the law and intend to change regulations to better protect police who chase suspected thieves on bikes.

In the meantime, however, he has said officers shouldn’t be frightened of ending up in court if suspects fall off during a pursuit. The Police Federation has said that the government is taking too long to introduce changes, but Hurd responded by saying they want to improve protection but that it doesn’t happen overnight.

It is hoped that increased protection for officers may help cut thefts. According to Met figures there were 24,329 moped related crimes in the 12 months to February 2018, up from 10,170 in the previous 12 months.
